Old School Remake : TMNT 4 Turtles In Time

So a fun idea I had was to talk about a few games that are retro now but were kind of like remakes back in the day, today's game is the classic beat em up TMNT 4 Turtles In Time. A classic beat em up based on a classic cartoon franchise that was an updated port of an arcade game. Thus being a remake when it ported to the Super Nintendo as well as the Genesis though on that console it was named Hyper Stone Heist. Both versions having new stages and different graphics as well boss fights thus being remakes for their time. Carrying over the gameplay that made the arcade version a fan favorite but adding something new, the fundamentals that carries into plenty of remakes, HD ports, and remasters today. So let's talk about the game.

I fired up my Super Nintendo and played this game recently, and it still holds up incredibly well, Turtles In Time is still a fantastic side scrolling beat em up that is full of amazing levels, charm, and fantastic music. The music is so high energy that it will hype you up for any occasion whether it is a epic boss fight with a familiar face from the cartoon or traverse one of the bright and colorful stages. Up to two players can take on Shredder's evil crew as all four of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. each carrying a different set of stats which makes them stand out more then just the color of their mask. Each stage is full of not just enemies to beat and outsmart but also obstacles like lasers and wrecking balls.

The game is full of so much personality similar to the cartoon it comes from. From the vibrant animations to the fantastic and energetic music. By adding stages and new bosses this is the original example of an HD port of a game, or a remaster. Adding enough to make it new while not taking away why we loved the original. This Super Nintendo classic holds up whether single player or bringing a friend along, with a wide variety of difficulties and true ending hidden behind the hardest setting. This game is an example of moving a game to a console done right, and it was done way back in the 90's.

For retro hunters either for the Genesis, Super Nintendo or both, Hyperstone Heist and Turtles In Time are both worth it, and both have different stages from each other. This is a case of the same studio making different games for the consoles to make them stand out and both are wonderful experiences with original stages and bosses for each. This is a classic example of a retro remake, so I wanted to talk about it today, both games are amazing and worth picking up. The title screens, music, and levels are full of style, charm all wrapped up in fantastic gameplay that will have you playing again and again. A fantastic time single or multiplayer.
