Why I Love Streets Of Rage 4

Sometimes SEGA gives their franchise to indie game developers to bring them back, games such as Monster Boy, Alex Kidd, Panzer Dragoon and more. This game was on my radar from the moment it was announced and when it came out it did not disappoint. Having only discovered the series in recent years, I am glad I played them because Streets Of Rage 1, 2, and 3 all hold up and a great time with friends or solo. The music, the high energy and great gameplay make this series a staple in the beat em up genre, and this new installment is no different. I have played this game countless times, so time to cover this game and new DLC to discuss if the new add ons are worth it. Time to pick up the controller and see why this game is a must for any beat em up fan.

This game plays and feels amazing, it controls great and throws you in right away into the gameplay. The online works fantastically and feels like you are in the same room with the person you are playing with, even though local co op is four players and online is limited to two, it works perfectly. There may be no block button but the way specials are used is that they still use your health to perform them, and that if you are not hit you can recover the health lost using by dealing more damage. Each of the characters have awesome abilities just for them and each one is a joy to play. The characters added with the DLC also fit right in and are also a blast to use.

The style and the music in this game are nothing short of fantastic. Each piece of music fits the stages perfectly, and the art style really pops. The game has a perfectly length that captures the classic arcade game style feel, while also being super challenging at times. The game is fairly forgiving when you get a game over or lose a life and does not set you back two far, thus being pretty balanced. This game is plenty of fun and there are a ton of unlockables, and even when everything is unlocked the game is so fun and has so many modes to keep me coming back again and again.

There are a ton of modes with varying difficulties and there is a ton of content to warrant the price of the game. The DLC is fairly inexpensive, added more characters and a new endless mode. The new mode is super fun and feels like a roguelike, I found myself trying again and again. I loved the new mode and tried not only the new characters but the old and had a blast with it, some of the runs ended quickly, others were super long but tons of fun.

It is hard for me to find a single flaw with this game, it is near perfect. There is so much variety, there are so many modes, the game is super fun with friends or alone. The DLC gives plenty for being the price that it is, and the base game has plenty as is. The game has a great art style, music, and wonderful gameplay. It has a great arcade feel with new and interesting mechanics, great gameplay, making a fantastic and unforgettable package.
