8 Songs I Love About Facing Your Fears

Halloween often focuses on fear. From haunted houses to scary movies, it is meant to scare some, while also giving candy to many, thus the phrase, trick or treat. We ask for either a scare or a prank, but preferably candy as we go door to door in our colorful costumes. But fear is a powerful emotion, a real emotion we all feel at one point or another. Whether we fear heights and rollercoasters, or something deeper like rejection and failure. Fear can often be stinky and we can feel more like a terrible trick, but with help from our friends and family, we can overcome it. Sometimes music helps me face my fears so today I am going to share some of my favorite songs about facing your fears or seizing the day. Grab your flashlights, and some spare candy from the bowl, and put some headphones in, it's time to turn on the lights and show our fears who's in charge. These songs are from animated shows, musicals, or just in general, these are songs that have helped me and might even help you, and I may even dive deeper into some of these in the future.

Bigger Than That (Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure)

The song that inspired this whole post and list, and the most recent one I have added to some of my playlists. A song addressing fears and how they make us feel, but showing how we are stronger. Telling the listener to not let the fear run loose but rather rise above it, in a fun and fast-paced way, this is a song that is great to dance to and is so fun with a great message. Simple, sweet, and fun, this song is a great listen.

Stronger (Finding Neverland)

Sometimes you have to know you are stronger and know that you have to face your fears. Not letting them rule over you, no matter how overwhelming they may be. That ideal shines through brightly in this song, proclaiming that one had to be stronger to make it past their obstacles. The song is triumphant and sweeping, a great inspirational song, that may or may not include a couple pirates.

Seize The Day (Newsies)

Much like the last song on this list, both being Broadway songs as well, this is about taking your shot no matter what. This is about facing your fears, even when you can't just wipe them away, and standing tall. Standing united and facing the unknown, this song starts slow but ramps up into a sweeping and inspirational song, calling the audience to seize the day along with the cast.

Hero Too (My Hero Academia)

Words sometimes have a heavy effect and can weigh us down. This song talks about not letting the world around us, shape who we are, choosing our path, and embracing it. This song echoes a strong message of confidence and chasing your dreams no matter what others think or say about you. This upbeat and fun song shows those listening they can be whoever they want and chase their dreams, they can even be a hero too.

Born For This (Hayley's On It)

Speaking of confidence, sometimes you just need to know you got this. This song from the new series Hayley's On It exudes that, knowing to not be stopped by fear but rather know you can overcome any challenge. This song exudes the confidence that one needs to overcome their challenges, this upbeat song will surely inspire you, whether doing something grand or mundane.

Here Comes A Thought (Steven Universe)

Anxiety sometimes can hold on to someone tight, from what we did, or from the actions of someone else. This calm and serene song is about keeping those thoughts in check when they run amok, not letting them control you, and knowing that you will be okay. Knowing that this moment, will not be the one where we fall apart. This one not only is a wonderful and beautiful song but is one I highly recommend looking into the scene it comes from alongside it. The gorgeous visuals drive the message home that much more, in a way that is worth giving this song, some thought to. This song has even helped me calm down on days that seem like pure chaos, reminding myself to take a moment and just breathe, knowing that the problems were just thoughts.

Face My Fears (Kingdom Hearts 3)

Yes, I even found a song from a video game on here, one that is a great listen and fits like a glove in today's list. A song where the words used, though not as many as other songs, are powerful and send the theme home in spades. This song is powerful and beautiful. The instrumentation, the lyrics, and the theme behind it. Even in the face of being terrified, taking that leap.

Defying Gravity (Wicked)

Yes, Halloween has witches, but this is the only one I need. A classic Broadway power ballad, right before the intermission curtain falls, the main actress challenges herself, and the audience to defy gravity. To never let the world drag us down, and let all our fears and worries stay on the ground. Finally embracing yourself and chasing your dreams no matter what the world around you says, no matter what you even say about yourself, this song encourages the listener to close their eyes and lwap, to embrace the unknown. Even if left alone, even if what we fear comes true, even if we fly solo, we fly free. A truly wonderful song that has transcended decades and inspired so many, to try and dream.

So that was my list, thank you so much for reading, have a safe Halloween and there is more content coming soon. Also what song, no matter the genre do you love that helps you face your fears? Feel free to share in the comments.
