It's Over Isn't It? (Steven Universe)

One of the most powerful ballads about lost love for me came from Steven Universe. This show found ways to keep on giving and resonating with people in so many ways, but the episode "Mr. Greg" might be my all-time favorite. The musical episode involving Greg, Steven, and Pearl going on a trip to the big city hits its emotional focal point in this song. Many people know it, but if not I highly recommend watching the song through the show on YouTube for your first listen. The visuals and music, all tied together with a gorgeous color palette tie together to make a song that is a gift from start to finish, and here is why I say that.   The night sky is a pretty shade of purple, as Pearl steps alone out onto the balcony of the hotel. Looking into the night sky. the lights of the city and the stars, illuminating the beautiful night sky. Holding a rose, she begins to lament her relationship with Steven's mother who shares the name with the flower she holds, her resentment for G

Tell Your Own Story, Do Your Own Thing: One Thing I Learned From Across The Spiderverse

This will probably not be the last time I talk about the impact of this film, I keep learning from this incredible film. The visuals, humor, story, characters, and messages of the film are just so close to perfect for me. Let's hang on to that last word, messages. Some may feel that an animated film could never contain deeper meanings or ideas. Still, if they looked outside their opinion, they would see animation as what it truly is, a necessary part of cinema. Animation can go places and bring ideas live action never could, and vice versa, they are both important. When this movie was first released, I saw it on opening day, and I was that excited. I love and adore the first film and the sequel just as much, it did not disappoint. I wanted to revisit the second film, since we have had more time with the first movie, and dive into some of the story beats, so spoilers are ahead just as a fair warning.  Across The Spiderverse takes our hero Miles Morales a year and some change ahead

Company (Musical, Cast Album)

With the holidays and the new year in the rearview mirror and recently concluded, we reflect on the time of year to get together with friends and family. Have dinner, exchange gifts, and talk about life. And with one topic when a group of adults gathers, there comes the inevitability of discussing relationships. This musical applies to adult life, whether the season calls for gatherings, a casual dinner with friends, or a birthday party. Today I am going to deep dive, via the cast album, into what is becoming one of the new favorite shows by the late great Stephen Sondheim. I hope I can see this walkthrough of Bobby's adult life live and performed on stage someday, but for now, all I have is the cast album or albums I should say. Getting advice and affection from sometimes overbearing friends, Bobby who can be portrayed by either Men or Women as the recent productions have shown, is still navigating the waters of life. Wanting to be in love but yet searching for what that really m

The Pokemon Concierge

When this show was first announced, I was indifferent. And then it came out and I watched the four episodes they had at the time of this post in one sitting and fell in love with it. The hype around this show is very real, I was blown away by how much I loved this show. Only four episodes and I want more, so why do I love this show so much? Well, that's what this blog post is for. The narrative of this show is fun for all ages but definitely has relatable content for adults while also having fun lessons for all ages. I am not going into detail because I think even a synopsis of this show spoils too much and it is so wonderful. The morals are real and down to earth, the characters are likable and the conflicts are relatable. The writing is fun, wholesome, and very well down, and has a good mix of humor and heartwarming with some great ideas. When I went in I thought I would have a fun time, and I did but I had way more fun than expected.  The lead of this show will be relatable for

Stronger Than You (Steven Universe)

I from time to time love deep-diving into songs I love and seeing why I do in fact love them so much. I have done so with quite a few songs from the Tangled series, and I hope to do so with movies, broadway musicals, and other shows as well. One show with music that I absolutely adore is Steven Universe, the songs range from fun, to absolutely powerful and full of strong emotional moments and relatable themes. This surely will not be the last time this show is mentioned, but for my first foray into one of my favorite shows to ever come from Cartoon Network, I thought why not talk about the song that hooked me from the get-go. One of the first things I ever heard from the series long before I watched it, or listened to the music, was the song that made me a fan of the show. The song is still one I listen to on repeat to this day, of course, I am talking about "Stronger Than You". So let's dive in and see what this song is made of. This song comes to us, of all places amid
