Indie Puzzle Game Buyers Guide (Vol. 1)

It is time for another buyers guide, as summer sales approach, I will have a summer sale buyers guide at some point but for today I thought I would recommend some puzzle games. Games of all different types that give what you need and then set you off to find the solution. All of these games are different in terms of gameplay, but all of them will leave you scratching your head in one way or another in the best way possible. Want a game that will keep you guessing? Well here are a few suggestions, and to keep with the theme of the month these will be indie puzzle games. So if you are looking for some different takes on puzzle games, and some that take a more familiar approach these titles might be worth looking into. Baba Is You . I have mentioned this game before, so I will be brief.  This game uses words to make a one of a kind puzzle game with a ton of fun charm. Peggle 2 This game will get you beyond hyped to drop balls and hit pegs to clear the screen, this game has so much charm,

Bonus Post: Mario Golf Super Rush First Impressions

Image
(Image Source: Gamingbolt.com) I know I need to return the New Pokémon Snap at some point as I did promise to cover it further, and yes we are in the middle of a themed month. But I decided I wanted to give some bonus content as well, and I have a couple more bonus posts planned that will just land in the middle of certain themed months as bonus content on top of already scheduled posts. I picked up Mario Golf Super Rush, and wanted to share my first thoughts after a few hours of gameplay.  I have not played the story mode yet, but rather played some rounds of golf and some of the new modes added as well as an online match or two. So what did I think? This game is good, but needs a patch or two, some of the base interface issues like wind direction, active obstacles, and of course an arrow showing where your ball is going to go. The last one appears sporadically and it baffles me, because it could just be there at all times but isn't.  The graphics and music are great and there ev

Mekabolt Review

Image
(Image Source: Nintendo.com)                                                System I Played On: Ps4 Sometimes when roaming the digital stores, I see a retro inspired game that has such a low price I decided to pick it up and give it a try. Sometimes I am surprised with games like Blitzbreak and Downwell and other times disappointed, let's see what category Mekabolt lands in. This game has you playing as a theme park employee who must collect batteries and stop the robot uprising. Armed with jumping and a stun gun, traverse levels, solve puzzles and collect all the batteries to save the day. This game has an opening and a closing cutscene with nothing in the middle, and when you start up the game, a basic title screen a few options and that is it. Much like the limited move set that was mentioned this game is bare bones in terms of presentation, you have four worlds with no cutscenes just an opening and ending that are ten seconds each if that.  The graphics are cute and the enemy

Update: Back To The Indies

All E3 content will now be podcast exclusive, and the blog will be going back into this months theme, the podcast will return to invested in indies theme a couple days after E3. It makes it easier on me to just put all the E3 content in one place and I tried for both and now decided to move it all to one. Thank you for understanding and have a great day!

Metal Slug Tactics Reaction

E3 season has begun today with Summer Games Fest and Day Of The Devs which I will be covering over on the podcast. Not many games during Summer Games Fest stood out to me, but one did. Metal Slug Tactics, helmed by the studio that gave us Streets Of Rage 4 and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Shredder's Revenge. This was completely unexpected but I loved the trailer and wanted to share my thoughts. This game is as the title implies a tactics game in the style of XCOM or Advance Wars. The artstyle and gameplay trailer made me think of Into The Breach, a game that has been on my radar for some time that I may have to get to sooner then later. I love this genre and have played the Advance Wars countless times. I have played the Metal Slug games a few times on consoles and even in the arcade and really enjoyed them. The sprite work looks on par with the classic series and it really excites me. Not many of the games from this event stood out to me, but seeing an indie studio br

Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion, A Meme Filled Adventure Starring An Adorable Menace

(Image Source:Mediaindieexchange.com) The title alone should suggest that this game is going to be a crazy time, and I can confirm right now, it is in the best way possible. The title along suggests nothing but wacky antics but does it deliver? This game has you playing as the mostly silent protagonist turnip boy, as he runs errands, rips up documents and traverses the cute fruit and vegetable inhabited world. As you explore you will unlock new skills in this classic Zelda inspired game, that has humorous writing at every turn. There are a few references that I will not spoil that are going to date this game big time but some of the humor is great. There is a good balance between reference and non reference humor, and a ton of memes, I would say that the humor is mostly good but has some jokes that do not land at all. The music is pretty good, and the presentation looks very cute, crisp, and clean for a sprite based game. Overall this game is good in terms of prestation and has great

Indie Game Sales Buyers Guide (Vol 1)

One of the many reasons I love Indie games is their lower asking price but also because they go on sale more often then not whether on PC with steam sales or console. Currently there is an Indie Sale going on on PS4, and the Eshop has been known to have quite a few sales as well, so I decided to make a buyers guide of some games that I highly recommend to look out for on sale. And keep an eye out I will be covering some of these games in the future.  A Hat In Time-  This platformer is near prefect, it has amazing personality, a ton of charm and great gameplay. Not only that but it also has fantastic DLC that adds to the fun, so if you get the whole package on sale it is definitely worth what you pay for, I got the game on sale and not only got my moneys worth but found a fantastic game full of fun, charm,  This game is a must for fans of 3D platformers and people who like fun and cute games. Slime Rancher- This game is incredibly relaxing. Another cute game that tasks you in slime ran

Invested In Indies Month! (June)

With the end of a theme for one month, we now are moving on to another one, this time it is Invested In Indies Month, as long as it is an Indie game it is good. Physical, digital, a small studio tackling a remake, a new idea, or an Indie Dev tackling a remake of a game from the past. There still will be E3 content, but now also Indie games at E3, but besides that, purely indie games for the month of June! The sky is the limit, reviews, discussions, lists, and more. Welcome to Invested In Indies month. Let's get started!

Steam World Dig A Fistful Of Dirt

Image
(Image Source: Nintendo Everything.Com) I have played this game plenty of times, but I decide to revisit it for this post. I have this game on multiple systems, because when it goes on sale it can get as low as a dollar, last time I played it on PS4 but this time I played it on the switch, and I will recommend it on both. In this game you dig, get money, cash in, and repeat, so what makes this game stand out? Let's DIG into the gameplay. The presentation in this game is a mixed, the graphics are fine, but the music is atmospheric and sometimes non existent, while the story is ho hum if not slightly confusing. Maybe the second game which I still have not played yet, but as a self contained game it was not what kept me playing.  What kept me playing was the gameplay, you begin just digging in the mine collecting more power ups and purchasing upgrades as you do. You start with a base set of moves that gives you just enough to maneuver, get some loot buy upgrades and progress. Every t
